POLYPHASIC SLEEP
In Dymaxion sleeping patterns the waking periods of time are identical in length and symmetrically located across a 24 hour period. If all variables were neutralized and each minute felt exactly the same, then all the stages would yield identical productivity from their participant.
Many variables do exist. These variables make the particular waking period seem to pass either more quickly or more slowly. I will discuss two of the most important variables that influence relative sensations of time in polyphasic sleeping: variant amounts of sunlight, standard mealtimes and energy from food.
1. Sunlight comes and goes
Sunlight triggers the circadian clock, and then the circadian clock influences feelings of exhaustion, energy, personal drive, and apathy.
2. Meals
Meals not only take up a substantial amount of time, but also the food that is eaten gives the patient long-lasting, sustained energy. I usually eat lunch and dinner during my 1pm-6:30pm waking period. The amount of effort that goes into food preparation, eating, and nutrition ensures that most meal-oriented waking session will have an easier time learning.
